The Milk Market’s famous Saturday farmers market is one of the oldest markets in Ireland, dating back to 1852, and visiting the Market is a much loved local ritual. It is regarded as one of the best markets in Ireland and in 2019 was voted among the Top 5 of Ireland’s Favourite Food Experiences.
It used to be a walled open-air market but was redeveloped and in 2010 became an all-weather, all year round market space following the construction of a large tented ‘big top’ canopy overhead. The project won a national RIAI architectural award. It now houses markets on Fridays and Sundays as well as the flagship Saturday food market, and additional market days during the Christmas season as well as hosting events throughout the year.
The Milk Market’s iconic food market has a huge range of fresh, in-season local products, mouthwatering artisan and unusual gourmet offerings, as well as hot food and coffee stands.
Going to the Market on a Saturday morning is a Limerick tradition and the whole market area of the city is buzzing and a must-visit for tourists to Limerick, gateway city to the Wild Atlantic Way.
On our Taste of Treaty City Saturday tour we visit the Milk Market where our guide will lead you around the market to get the full experience, with a few tastings along the way too of course.
